History
Microhandling GmbH incorporated in 1985, founded by Dr. Helmuth Heigl, rooting its ground in Germany as a leading designer and manufacturer of test head manipulators. It is a first European company that designed and manufactured customized manipulators for the semiconductor test integration. The company has since then constantly grown to a large size organization. Designers were extensive and be at the forefront of technology, offering differentiated manipulators solution to the market.
Microhandling GmbH gets ready for the production expansion in meeting global market explosive demand for test head manipulators, additionally undertaking a side step into the very specialized field of docking systems.
The nineties are marked for Microhandling GmbH as it gained strong market traction within ATE market. Major ATE market leaders being Teradyne and Advantest dedicated Microhandling manipulators as the OEM solution to their proprietary test head such as J750, MicroFlex and V93000. Microhandling meets the growing demands for hard docking testing by releasing its various model of manipulators, for instances MP925, MP4 and MP10. Into late nineties, more than ten products have been designed and added into the product portfolio, making the Microhandling one of the leading manipulator maker of different functions.
By the joint venture of Kobay Technologies, Microhandling established its headquarters in Singapore and relocated its design Center-of-Excellence from Germany to Singapore. Dr. Helmuth Heigl’s successor, Mr. Hubertus Heigl has been appointed as company director and led the company together with the Managing Director, Mr. Chai Meng Meng. Since then Singapore operation has established as the logistic and manufacturing hub in distributing manipulators and docking systems to the global customers. Microhandling was renamed to Microhandling Asia and continue to satisfy the customers demand with new manipulators – the hundred series, i.e. MP100, MP200, MP300, MP450, MP600 and MP915. Coupled with attractive pricing as a result of reduced operation cost, the company regained its market share-of-wallet within the ATE market.
Under the leadership of the managing director, Mr. Chai Meng Meng, Microhandling Asia enter into new chapter of business strategy. Worldwide sales partners were acquired hence the company gains access to IDMs and OSATs markets from every corner of the world. In 2014, Microhandling Asia flourish its revenue with the establishment of business collaboration with Aemulus ATE.
The recent years are characterized by focusing on cost optimization. Since 2014, Microhandling Asia continued the acquisition of strategic suppliers from the neighbor country, Malaysia. In 2016, the Kobay Technologies subsidiary site in Penang, Polytool Technologies becomes home for the production of manipulators and docking systems. Microhandling Asia was renamed to KT Microhandling marking a new synergy era of Kobay Technologies and Microhandling. The Penang site therefore functions a sustaining engineering center for global field support, design and development while Germany remains as the collaborated research and development center for advancing KT Microhandling’s next generation manipulator and docking.
